Sneak Peak and New Projects

Last weekend, I worked hard to get most of the painting done in my laundry area.  I didn't completely finish, but here is a little look at what I did to one wall....
The wall is made of wood boards which reminded me of a project I saw on Young House Love when they painted their front porch.  Wait till you see the finished look!

With all this basement cleaning up, I decided this winter, we are going to tackle another area.  I call this room, Clint's room, because all the tools are in it.  But As you can see, most of my art supplies take up the room.

The room has some great features, like the vise....

....a few built in cabinets...

...and it is enclosed.

Someone took a lot of pride in this room.  Here is the very ugly part.  There are these, not so attractive, home made storage shelves.  The wood used was pieced together and at times, they decided cardboard would be a good backer instead of dry wall or plywood.

I give them an A for effort, but that is where it stops. This winter, I would like to repaint the room and cabinets, along with installing new shelves.  Just make it a more organized space and not so hard on the eyes.

Any suggestions you think may help with cleaning up this space?

Ohh! STRIPES! I love them! (I don't think I'm patient enough to try them myself, with all of that taping and measuring and whatnot, but I do love them!) Also? I've been nagging my hubby to organize his tool area for months so that I can find stuff when I need to... so you get an A+ for convincing yours to go with it! Ha ha! If the shelves were in good shape, I might suggest just nailing a 1x2 to the front of them to trim it out and give them a prettier look. Not sure what to make of the "cardboard for shelves" deal, though. It's amazing the crazy stuff you find in older homes, isn't it?

I love how much space you have and can't wait to see what you will have done to it.
I love your stripes,
and will be awaiting more pics to see the end results.
Ikea has some great metal containers that are really sturdy and would look great on your shelves out there - and I too would love to have a ironing board tucked away in a little cabinet on the wall.
Sam's club has an ironing board cabinet - but probably not as inexpensive as Ikeas.

@ Jen - I thought of that idea of just dressing up the shelves and we may just do that. It depends on our budget, really. The stripes weren't too hard because the boards already gave a line for me to work off of. Otherwise, I wouldn't have done it! lol.

@ Elizabeth - Thanks for the suggestions! I will have to see what Sames Club has!! I like the idea of using the metal containers also...more manly for Clint :-)

Paint and some cute curtains will do wonders for those shelves!

We must be stripe buddies! I really want to do some neutral stripes in the guest bedroom. Your stripes are absolutely fabulous!

This space is going to be a very cool before and after space! I can't wait to see your results! Can you tell my excitement with all of my exclamation marks?

Why is it that the workshop is always the last room to be "F I X E D"? I'm looking forward to seeing how you re-work the room (I've added you to my Google Reader)
