Basement Update....The Floor

It has been awhile since I have updated you on the basement project!  Why?  Well, we hit a snag with the drain backing up, which in turn drained our bank account...hahaha...So we had to put it off for just a little bit.

If you haven't been following, here is a recap here and here.  Trust me, it is amazing what paint can do!  In a nutshell, our basement has this neat little room with shelving and workbench.  The problem, it looked just awful!  We have been using paint to transform the space!

Next was the concrete floor.  Now, we are not dirty people at all.  I would not say we are the cleanest either.  But, this floor sure makes us look like slobs!

The previous owners must have been in the Christmas mood when picking colors.  Actually, I think the green came first, then the red.  Who cares.  It's ugly either way.

The floor is also very lumpy.  Someone must have had a hard time pouring or didn't care.  I vote for didn't care.

Rule number one when painting a floor:  Make sure the floor is super clean.

Yes, this is clean.  I mopped this baby twice with cleaner and 3 times with just water.

Rule number two: Make sure to start at the farthest point so you can get out of the room without stepping in paint.

TADA!  First coat done!

It looks like a sea of milk chocolate!

The tool room is almost ready for the big reveal!

Whoa! That is so much better! Did you have any problems with the paint flaking off? We did after water got on the floor, but I'm kind of wondering if maybe we messed something up!?

Hey Jen! We haven't noticed any problems yet, but I have not applied water to it. Maybe I should run a mop over it to see. The paint was a little sticky after 24 hours, but is better now.

Big improvement!
It's funny - my grandma's house (also in the metro area) had that same red-over-green paint "treatment," - I wonder if those were specific "floor" paints?

OMG amazing! I am still trying to convince the Mister that you can paint floors. He's not budging on painting ours... Now granted, ours doesn't look as bad as your before! lol

SQUEAL! I'm so excited that you posted this. I'm fairly certain that painting the basement is going to fall on me and I think this seems doable. DId you do the walls, too, or did I miss it?

And, seriously what are people thinking about when they paint?

What a difference paint makes! I love the color, but now I'm craving a handful of Dove chocolates for some reason...

Hey Kim! Yes we painted the cinder block with drylok paint to water seal the walls. They are just white.
